Morrison, Office Depot donate bags
August 20, 2008
Rep. Judy Morrison, R-Shawnee, again has partnered with The Office Depot Foundation to donate backpacks containing essential school supplies as part of the foundation's Eighth Annual National Backpack program, in partnership with the National Foundation for Women Legislators.
This year's backpacks will be given to Crestview, Merriam Park and Nieman elementary schools. The backpacks were formally presented to the schools Aug. 12 at the Office Depot in Shawnee, 11225 Shawnee Mission Pkwy. The backpacks were handed out to children in need on the first day of school last week.
Office Depot donated 300,000 backpacks in all in the United States and Canada this year, and including this year's donation, the foundation will have given away nearly 1.8 million backpacks since the program began in 2001. Members of the National Foundation for Women Legislators helped distribute 18,000 of the backpacks this summer.

Talking points
Do you think it’s worth it to shop on “Black Friday?”
“I didn’t go, because I knew there would be crowds and I didn’t want to deal with it. But I did see some things I wanted, and I thought I’d go get them the next day.”
